COMMEMORATION 2018
On Saturday 13th October 2018 the Local London Guiding Associations are holding their annual day of free guided walks highlighting the fascinating history of their local areas.
2018 marks many historical anniversaries and significant milestones such as the end of World War One, the birth of the National Health Service and 100 years since the RAF was formed and women gained the right to vote. Memorials to the people and events involved in these events take many different forms –statues, plaques, street names, benches and sculptures. Find out about some of them on a free guided walk led by one of London’s specialist local guides
Clerkenwell & Islington guides will be leading a walk called Remembering Islington’s Past. Join us to hear about the historic importance of the Regent’s Canal and the Islington tunnel. Discover how those who gave their lives in WW1 are being remembered today. Hear about the struggle for women’s suffrage and learn of other Islingtonians who have contributed to society.
Walks take place every hour on the hour from 10am to 4pm and last no longer than 60 minutes.
