If you’ve ever been on a guided tour and thought, “I’d love to do that!”, now’s your moment.
Imagine leading engaging tours, bringing the past to life and discovering fascinating stories right on your doorstep.
This is your chance to become a qualified Clerkenwell & Islington guide by enrolling on our acclaimed training course.
Our ‘Class of 2026’ completed the course last month and some have already started leading their own public tours.

This year’s students at New River Walk in July.
A year ago, they might have wandered through parks like this for recreation or as a short cut. Now they know its history and are experts on dozens of historic buildings, streets, and places of interest in the borough, all thanks to completing our course.
The next course begins in January, and we’re now accepting applications. If you’re curious to learn more, join us for our ‘Meet the Guides’ event at 6:30pm on Wednesday 9 September. Enjoy a free walking tour around Farringdon and Clerkenwell, led by a group of qualified guides, and then join us at a local pub to ask questions and hear firsthand about the course from those who’ve completed it.

Our part-time course is designed to equip you with the research and presentation skills essential to being an excellent tour guide, while immersing you in the rich and varied history of Clerkenwell and Islington. From its medieval monastic houses and grand Georgian squares to its vibrant reputation as a hub for radical thought, lively entertainment, and health-giving waters, Clerkenwell and Islington offers endless fascinating discoveries.
Classroom sessions, featuring local history lectures and skill-building activities, take place on Wednesday evenings. Every other Saturday morning, we hit the streets for ‘walkshops’, where you’ll research and lead guided walks alongside your fellow students.
Each year, we’re thrilled to receive glowing feedback from our students. Here’s what some of our newly qualified guides have to say:
-
- “It was brilliant. It gave me a great grounding in guiding and skills to do this professionally…”
-
- “It has opened my eyes to this fascinating area and increased my thirst for knowledge”
-
- “The tutors did everything they could to make the learning process enjoyable and yet focused on the course’s objectives.”
Find out more about the course and apply at our website, or book your free spot for the ‘Meet the Guides‘ event via Eventbrite. We look forward to seeing you on the street soon
