Would you like to become a tour guide?

If you’ve ever been on a guided tour and thought, “I’d love to do that!”, now’s your moment.

Imagine leading engaging tours, bringing the past to life and discovering fascinating stories right on your doorstep.

This is your chance to become a qualified Clerkenwell & Islington guide! Our latest graduates recently celebrated their achievements, receiving their certificates from the mayor at a special ceremony at Islington Town Hall.

This year’s students with the Mayor of Islington, Jason Jackson, at Islington Town Hall, 4 October 2025.

A year ago, they might not have known about this Grade II-listed building’s royal connections or its secret nuclear bunker. Now, they’re experts on dozens of historic buildings, streets, and places of interest in the borough, all thanks to completing our course.

The next course begins in January, and we’re now accepting applications. If you’re curious to learn more, join us for our ‘Meet the Guides’ event at 6:30pm on Wednesday 22 October. Enjoy a free walking tour around Farringdon and Clerkenwell, led by a group of qualified guides, and then join us at a local pub to ask questions and hear firsthand about the course from those who’ve completed it.

Our part-time course is designed to equip you with the research and presentation skills essential to being an excellent tour guide, while immersing you in the rich and varied history of Clerkenwell and Islington. From its medieval monastic houses and grand Georgian squares to its vibrant reputation as a hub for radical thought, lively entertainment, and health-giving waters, Clerkenwell and Islington offers endless fascinating discoveries.

Classroom sessions, featuring local history lectures and skill-building activities, take place on Wednesday evenings. Every other Saturday morning, we hit the streets for ‘walkshops’, where you’ll research and lead guided walks alongside your fellow students.

Each year, we’re thrilled to receive glowing feedback from our students. Here’s what some of our newly qualified guides have to say:

  • “Really excellent teaching and a great mix of activities.”
  • “Best thing I have done in years.”
  • “Such a rewarding and transformative experience. Great community of people, and wonderful course material.”

Find out more about the course and apply at our website, or book your free spot for the ‘Meet the Guides’ event via Eventbrite. We look forward to seeing you on the street soon!
