From Pillar to Past
Join us in a walk that explores 350 years of London Postal History – from the Coffee Houses of the 1600s to the electronic communications of today. Discover why pillar boxes are coloured red, why the post is called the ‘post’ and the mail is called the ‘mail’; and why the floors of all telephone boxes slope.
This two hour walk meets outside Farringdon underground station (the modern main Thameslink entrance to the station) and ends close to Bank underground station. No booking required – pay the guide (£7, £6 for concessions, £5 for Friends of BPMA). All guides are members of the Clerkenwell & Islington Guides Association and the City of London Guide Lecturers Association.
