Take a stroll along Upper Street and learn how Islington developed from its dairies to music hall and cinema. This guided
This guided walk will explore some of the features of the village along Upper Street, which connect with Islington’s rural and agricultural past. We will see some of the area’s rich history of entertainment and religion. We will hear about maypoles, dairy maids, drovers and cream teas. In those days, Islington was a place of escape: a contrast to the urban Islington we know today. The walk is linear, ending at Highbury and Islington tube. It is part of the Islington Festival of Walks, celebrating the guided walks available in the borough. Numbers are restricted and social distancing requirements will be followed on the walk.
